Hoover Dam

On the way from Vegas ~ passing Lake Mead.

Pretty amazing!  Talk about ingenuity and hard work...

The new suspension bridge.

Water intake on the Lake Mead side.

Under the dam during the tour.
One of the original tunnels.
Huge water turbine generators.
Our guide was great ~ he had a lot of 'dam' humor!

From the observation deck after the tour.
This was a neat stop.

Another little pit stop...

Had to go by the 'Pawn Stars' location!
Didn't go in - quite busy - interesting crowd!

Vegas Or Bust

Hello Vegas!

See it way out there in the middle of no where?

Staying at Nellis AFB - nice and safe!

Fires here, too!  Smoke goes a long way...

Up closer.  Not sure what is burning - doesn't seem to be a lot of stuff to burn out here.  They said they should have it out by mid to late July?

From our campsite on base.  The smoke was covering the sunset.

Daddio is sad to be back to 'civilization'.
Maybe he'll be better tomorrow after The Thunderbird Museum and Blueman Group.

Zion National Park Springdale, UT

On the way to Zion ~ looks like rain, but didn't get any!

We camped on the park grounds.

Very nice park.

The view from our campsite :)

The Three 'Patriarchs': Abraham, Issac, and Jacob.

Beautiful canyon.

             Weeping Rock  - see Sarah?

Then came 'The Riverwalk' and 'The Narrows'

The first mile is a nice path, mostly paved ~ then the rest of the hike is in the Virgin River.  The river flows through the bottom of a deep, narrow gorge. It is sandy and rocky - and absolutely beautiful!

Sam and Sarah leading the way down 'The Narrows'.

It is ranked as one of the top 5 hikes in the US!

Pictures just don't do it justice...

Another great hike - round trip about 6 or 7 miles.

Goodbye Colorado ~ Hello Utah

Goodbye Colorado and
a fond farewell to our
  new friends
   The Gabriel Family!
It was sad to go ~
  hopefully our paths will
    cross again!

On the road again ~ heading to Arches NP in Moab, UT.

Arches National Park.

The park at sunrise.
It was hot ~ had to hike early in the morning and late in the evening!

Balanced Rock

Above is the gang hanging out in one of the arches.

Sand Dune Arch was one of our favorites!

The delicate Arch at sunset - this is the upper viewpoint - you can barely see the arch right between the boys :)

Ended the night watching the fireworks from the campround.
Happy 4th everyone!

Big Day For Mom

Canyons of the Ancients

But ~ here's why it was a good day for Mom :)

Accidentally drove past the Canyon of the Ancients (by about 18 miles?) and happened upon this quaint vineyard!! Believe it was meant to be!

Visited with the owner for hours.  We had the best time ~ all four of us!  Here he is telling the story of Battle Rock - which is shown in the background.  The last battle between the Hopi and Ute tribes took place on top of that rock.
He had so many wonderful stories.  He has lived and traveled all over the world. Then he was gracious enough to give us a tour of the house and vineyard.  We feel very honored that he spent his afternoon with us!
Thanks John!

And...  then to top it off ~ a thrift shop!

WHAT A DAY :)

Four Corners

Great saying around the edge of the monument:

FOUR STATES

HERE MEET

IN FREEDOM

UNDER GOD

 All 4 states at once!
 AZ, CO, NM, and UT
